So I've read numerous threads, post, and reviews that say 2gb is enough or not enough for 1440p gaming and now I'm confused.
What do you guys think?
My uses for the card are 1440p gaming, video rendering, and game/digital art.

My 7870 xt 2gb seems to handle 1440p fine in most games. However i don't run filters anymore becouse i simply can't see the difference with filters on and off at 1440p. So i would say in my experiance 2gb of vram is fine for 1440p. Just be carefull adding heaps of texture mods in skyrim becouse it eats up your vram lol.
What is your budget for the card?
$500cad but the cheaper the better. i can get a zotac 4gb for $450 or a gigabyte 2GB for $400

overclock this to 1150/1475 or higher and it will easily hit 770 speeds, from what I have heard I think that 3gb 384 bit is as good as 4gb 256bit ram, and anyways 3gb is plenty unless you need a boatload of skyrim mods(like 200+)
Thanks for the suggestion Crimson, but the ATI CCC and photoshop hate each other and the result is that it kills my esc key. Sooo i'd rather stick with nvidia. However the rumours of the new ati cards are crazy interesting. I might hold out for those even if it just means a price drop for nvidia.
If you wish to stick with Nvidia, the 770 is the best card you can have. The 760 would be a minimum recommendation.
I wouldn't advise getting a 600 series card. Though, they are also 2GB of Vram, they were held back by their memory bandwidth. So they had 'slower memory'. 2GB isn't always the same as another 2GB. With this issue resolved in the 700 series, 2GB will be enough for next-gen and 1440p.
My friend has a GTX770 2GB and we ran some tests @ 1440p. I remember the average memory usage for games like tomb raider was pushing 1.8GB getting close to two after a few scene changes.
I have a GTX 580 3GB card (I planned on a SLI and surround setup that never happened) and the only game I've seen go over 2GB is Skyrim. It only goes over the 2GB due to mods. It's actually been close to the 3GB a few times ^^
Otherwise it sits around 800MB - 1.4GB, if I remember correctly.
With that said, I don't really game as much as I used to and I haven't touched any newer titles in a while, so I can't say if it's neccessary, or at least desirable with more than 2GB. What I will say, is that if I were to pick a new GPU in the near future, I'd go for something with more than 2GB.
