13.04 Problems

Hello, I am currently running Ubuntu 13.04 on my 5 year old Toshiba Satellite L350D-12M pretty much flawlessly.

However, there are a few problems with it that I am unsure about:

  1. ACPI Fan problem: This happened in previous versions of Ubuntu; the fan would be off when you boot up my computer. But suddenly, at 70c, the fan kicks in at full pelt. However, it never turns off. I've tried messing with the ACPI settings like it says in the Ubuntu Forum, but to no avail.
  2. Unity Menu problem: This is a newoccurance in 13.04. Basically, when I click on the Unity menu, it appears frazzled and generally not as it should:

So, can anyone help. (Note: There are no drivers for the GPU in my laptop for Linux on the AMD/ATI website)

Have you tried the driver from the repos? The open source one works good on some of those older cards.
