120hz with HDMI

Hey guys! I have a question about using a 20hz monitor. I am looking at getting the  BENQ XL2420T and it supports 1080p @ 120hz via DVI DL.

My question: will I be able to take advantage of 120hz if i use a DVI to HDMI adapter and hdmi 1.4a (i think) cable?

The reason for this is I use the Avermedia Live Gamer HD to record and stream gameplay (youtube.com/AJonGAMES) and the card only has HDMI in and out for video recording.

any help would be amazing! all of my research has yielded mixed results so I decided to bring my question to you fine people =)

Also, if using HDMI isn't possible, is there some type of splitter or powered pass-through device that would help me connect my GFX card directly to the monitor and branch off to HDMI or something that can be converted to HDMI?

Thanks in advance guys and sorry for any spellng errors. lol

ummm, there's a reason everyone uses fraps.... so much better than a hardware solution.

and if the hdmi doesn't support 120hz, then it won't with an adapter

and you may be able to just hook ur card's hdmi up to the recorder, and use a duplicated multi-monitor setup. essentialy, you make windows think ur recorder is another monitor

To do the adapter and have the HDMI to DVI you would need an active adapter. Basically with Dual Link DVI the adapter needs to split the HDMI signal over the 2 DVI connecters and such a thing doesn't exist. However you can get a DVI splitter (make sure it's dual link) so the monitor will get getting 120hz and the card will be getting 60. (Dual link DVI to HDMI does exist but will be scaled to single link so 60hz limitation.)

Also don't forget you will lose audio this way so hopefully you have a workaround for that.

@Commissar, Fraps is actually a terrible recording solution the reason people use it is because it's cheap.

thanks for the reply but fraps isn't "better" than a hardware solution. not even close. For workflow, it's amazing. the tiny file sizes and ZERO frame loss is fantastic. Configuring audio is also easier as well as taking all of the video encoding work away from the cpu.

Both solutions have pros and cons but in my case, using fraps or any software is doable but very inefficient.

Thank you! This is exactly what I need! =)

where u get the recorder, and how much is it?

it's the Avermedia Live Gamer HD and it goes for $180-ish dollars USD on newegg (where I got mine).

hdmi dosent have the bandwidth
