120hz question

I have a 120hz capable monitor with a dual link dvi cable, how do i get 120hz to work?

what's the monitor in question?

You need to make sure you hook it up with a Dual Link DVI or display port cable. Single Link DVI, HDMI or VGA will only support resolutions upto 1920x1080 (or 1200) at 60Hz.

120/144Hz capable monitors often come with a suitable cable  so you are probably OK there. You then need to select the Advanced settings in Display Prefernces or just use Catalyst Control Center or Nvidia Control Panel (depending on card) to select the correct resolution and refresh rate.

alienware optx, I have a r9 270x connected to it with a DVI-D (dual link), when i look though the options only 60hz @1080p shows up, no option for 120hz in windows and CCC

even the monitor says it's at 60hz

Does your cable look like this.

I used to use a DVI-D single link, I just got a DVI-D Dual link today, I'm sad that 120hz still does not work, I really don't understand why, I have the right cable, and a video card capable of 120hz, but windows or CCC gives me no 120hz option.

hmmmm it seems the monitor i have now is a Alienware Otpx aw2210 and not a aw2310. The aw 2210 does not have 120hz while the aw2310 does,  I thought it did I read somewhere that it did, oh well. Still a great  monitor despite that
