I have two friends that have different systems and different coolers. One has an AMD FX8350 (stock clocks) that is cooled with a Xigmatek Dark Knight II and the other has an AMD A8 3850 (stock clocks) that is cooled with the stock heat sink.
The interesting thing here is that they both seem to idle anywhere between 10C-15C! Is that possible or is that an error? I touched both heatsinks and they weren't even warm, they were somewhat cool to the touch. Has anyone else experienced this?
Note* Funny that this seems to happen with AMD chips.
possible, but unlikely.
Idle temps should be around 20-40, depending on cooling.
To go lower than the ambient (room) temperature, you would need a cooling system for air-intake.
Somebody with an i7 had the same problem, after he had allmost burned his CPU at 110 C, and then swapped out the cooling system getting low temps under 20 in idle.
Could try different software to get the temps, hopefully its a software issue.
Yes, it is possible, I got my FX 6100 with its stock cooler on my older rig, to Idle at 9°C (got a screenshot :D) But that day was chilling (under 10°C) and I had my windows open.
Haha, no it was warm inside, about upper 70'sF, so it must be a software thing. But I used H.W. monitor, which is what I use on my rig, but the temps it reported were way lower on idle.
Try different software, and compare results
Its impossible to get colder then ambient temp withought liquid helium/nitrogen or phase change cooling.
I am running between 13 and 28 my self but I am running custome water
