990x gives you the ability to SLI if you want to and overclock better than the 970 platform

Since we're still gouging prices here in Canada, Nvidia is going to give you a better bang for your buck than AMD.

You can take some money out of the keyboard and focus it elsewhere, like a nicer case, but this is a good launch point. Something you can fiddle around with.

Will the 550W power supply be good enough though if I wanted to upgrade to sli or get a gtx 770 in the future?

You'll have to get a 750W PSU if you want to add another graphics card(GTX 770).  Slightly less will be needed with two 760s

To get a GTX 770, yes. To SLI, no. You would need a 600w min power supply to SLI 2 760s.

There is a EVGA 600b power supply within the budget.... but.... I'm not sure how reliable their PSUs are. There really isn't a reliable review I can find on this PSU series...

the 500b and 600b are budget power supplies that are useable.  They're not amazing in quality, but they don't suck.  I would look into a higher quality power supply though, especially if you're going to be going to be stressing the max wattage.

Alright so this is what I came up with http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3lk4m . Its a little over the budget, however I think the extra wattage on the power supply and the corsair quiet case fans will really help for the future. Also, if I decided not to overclock the fx 6300, would it bottleneck my gtx 760? Thanks

Get the modular version of the CX750M; there are just too many cables at such a high wattage.  Do away with the fans and see if the stock 200R fans work.  The FX-6300 should be just fine with the gtx 760.

I own a 500b and it's definitely a nice PSU. I haven't tried it long-term with components that would draw alot but it's currently in my grandfather's PC, and he uses his computer daily for hours on end. I think their PSUs are made by the same OEM as corsair CX psus but someone should double-check on that. I wouldn't SLI with it though.

Here's another option: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3lqvF

$75 over budget, but substantially stronger CPU and 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD.

Not bad, anyone else have anything? And should I be choosing an AMD video card possibly for mantle if I choose the fx 6300?

If you want mantle, the only requirement is that you have an AMD GCN GPU.  Any recent video card from AMD will work.  The CPU doesnt matter.

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3lRHI there is one AMD option, however it is an 8320

That's ok, but I need it to be around (50 dollar range) 1000$ and I need the OS as well.

Personally, I prefer AMD graphics cards over Nvidia, I just kept the same card in that build suggestion for consistency. Direct X 12 is on the way soon, so Nvidia cards will also see similar benefits as AMD does/will with mantle. It's really a matter of preference in the end.

The AMD equivalent to the 760, the R9 280, is $50 more. Yes, you could overclock the 270x to the point of a 760, but you can overclock a 760 further than what the 270x can reach. If mantle is that important to you, you know your options, but remember it won't be universally adopted and you will be stuck with less power for most games.

Your choice, but I would still recommend the 760.
