1.4 DP KVM 2x2, no HID support on M1 Mac, Intel Mac and PC work fine

KVM Model:

1.4 Display Port KVM Switch - Dual Monitor - Two Computer

USB Interface (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):

10-gigabit

Problem:

  • Issue on M1 MacBook Pro:
  • The HID ports do not work at all.
  • USB hubs (tested on both HID and USB3 ports) connected via the KVM fail to function.
  • Comparison with 2019 MacBook Pro:
  • On the 2019 model, everything works fine.
  • Devices such as the Logitech mouse and NovelKeys keyboard operate flawlessly when connected to either USB3 or HID ports on both my PC and laptop—even when using several different USB hubs through the KVM.

Other Notes:

  • USB Hubs Tried:
  • An older Anker powered USB hub
  • A brand new Sabrent powered USB hub
  • A generic Amazon Basics unpowered USB hub
  • None of these work on the M1 laptops when connected via the KVM, regardless of using HID or USB3 ports.
  • Direct Connection:
  • When connected directly to the CalDigit TS4 dock, the peripherals work fine on the M1 laptops—but this configuration prevents the PC from receiving audio.
  • Firmware Check:
  • The TS4 dock has been tested with both its original 2022 firmware and the latest version available, with no improvement in HID/hub support.
  • Signal Chain:
  • Laptop: USB-C → CalDigit TS4 → KVM → Samsung Monitor + Dell Monitor
  • PC: USB-C → KVM → Samsung Monitor + Dell Monitor

Okay I solved it - sorry for the duplicate post. I moved my secondary monitor from a DP1.4-to-USB-C cable to the TS4 and just went directly into the TS4 via standard DP 1.4 cable to the DP port - it’s only a partial solution as that means the second monitor is always only connected to the laptop but I don’t ever use the second monitor on my PC anyway so this works. HID / Hubs now function on the M1. How frustraing!

Hm? Are you meaning a change in your display connections has changed how your usbs work?
